I was running late for work the other day and forgot to give her the morning does of her PB :( DOH! 2 days later she had 1 minor few second seizure, but has been fine since. It's so stressful. I forget to take my medicine sometimes, so I am sure it wont be the last time I forget a dose for her :(

Hi Josh, we've all been there at one time or another. I have a 7 day pill box and that really helped me.

Yeah, my wife didnt think I gave Meara her medicine that day, but she assumed I did, so she didnt call and ask me. After that episode we pulled out one of our spare weekly pill seperators also :) It definitely makes it a lot easier to manage!

Meara had another seizure tonight :( She did get in to the cat litter about an hour or so before, wonder if that had anything to do with it? Anyway, thats 2 within the last week, im gonna call the vet and see what they want to do w/ her dosage... BLAH! right now shes takin 75mg twice a day, origionally before we tried weening her off, she was on about 45mg a day and seizure free for MONTHS! If we could only turn back time :(

Happy Holidays,
Josh

This epilpsy business is so unpredictable! Just when we think we have it down pat something hits us from out in left field. There have been many pups that have gone seizure free for months then BAM!!! It may have been the missed Pb dosage, but I have my doubts about that unless her levels are low to begin with.

Keep a journal if you aren't already doing so and if her seizures increase you might have to add KBr or increase the Pb.

Just wanted to give yall an update. It's been a month since Meara's last seizure! She is finally getting back on track. Had her PB levels checked 2 weeks ago and it was at 16.8 - this is good because it gives us plenty of room to work with if she beins seizuring again.

For now we keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!

Well, I guess a little over a month is pretty good. Meara woke us up this morning banging under the bed having a seizure around 4:15AM. I gave her a dose of pheno once she came out of it then gave her another dose at her normal time (6:00AM).

I guess a seizure every month or so isn't too bad...but no matter how many times you see it, it is always sad :(

Meara had another seizure this morning, been about 3 weeks since the last one. I am going to call the vet tomorrow and see what they think. Her PB levels were in therapeutic range but on the low end so we have a lot of room to work with, so I might see about upping the dose. SIGH, nothing like waking up to the sound of thumping and the smell of seizure and urine. UGH! :o

Sorry to hear about Meara.
You are the only other person I know of that has mentioned the smell of a seizure - urine excluded. I asked a long time ago but no-one could say that they have ever experienced it and it was difficult to describe the smell.
Now I know I was not going nuts. Thanks.

Meara is just on PB right now. She was on 75mg twice a day. We switched her to 75mg in the morning, 90mg in the evening. So far shes been on that since Monday and we are startin to see the side effects of the upped dosage. Sedation/Lethargy...guess that will go away in a few days, but its sad to see her this way :(

Her last PB check was 16.8, guess we will get her checked again shortly.

:o Meara has been vomiting up the lovely yellow bile/water since yesterday. Have a call in to the vet. Not sure if this is related to the upped dosage of meds, or if she ate something and has that stuck in her stomach. A few months ago she was vomiting a little similar to this and she ended up throwing up a ball of toilet paper. UGH. Peoples trash always ends up in our backyard because it gets up against our fence and the dogs pull it in :( I really hope I dont have to get an xray and have her need surgery to get something removed from her stomach....

Can she even go under anaesthesia? This is what triggered the early onset of Epilepsy to begin with....UGH!

She can go under anesthetic, but I believe they have to use a particular one.

BAD girl for eating garbage!!! MK eats things, too, luckily it hasn't been anything that gets stuck inside. Hopefully, she'll vomit up whatever she ate.

Let us know how it goes.

If she is eating get her onto cooked chicken and boiled white rice for a few days. It is calming on the stomach and may help her get rid of whatever is causing the problem. Make sure she has plenty of boiled water too.
