Mini Schnauzer - suspected partial seizures

Post by cvee » Thu May 03, 2018 9:05 am

Hi all,

I only recently found this site, even though I’ve been dealing with seizures for almost 3yrs.
Having read some stories here, it seems my case is not as severe.... but in the back of my mind I keep thinking maybe they aren’t seizures.... though on here I have read stories with similarities.

My dog never collapses, looses consciousness or shakes in a traditional seizure.
It first presented as irritation or pain in his hind quarters, tail and bum that he kept licking. Lots of pacing and vocalising, almost as if to try run away from the pain in his rear.
The first few emergency vet visits were treated as possible anal gland issues. The event would last anywhere from 6-9 hours.... not the few minutes a seizure is reported as lasting.

It looks to me like maybe a spasm or intense itch response that makes my poor boy very agitated.

I have a few vids on YouTube that I will post below.
Happy to get feedback on them.

My main concern is the apparent pain he is in... and lasting up to 9 hours with waves of high and lows. Ie. like the spasm/pain/itch subsided and then returns.

It never occurred to me that they could be cluster events.
Seems like they are more pre-ictal phase and aura maybe????.

Happy to go into more detail about meds etc, as I’ve managed to keep him event free more or less for 3 months now on raw diet, cbd oil and Keppra which I’ve just weened him off over the last 3 months.

Tomorrow is first day of no Keppra and I’m very scared.
Was brought down from 500mgx3, to 375mg, 250mg and for last 2 weeks 125mg X3.
