Well, we had an 11 day run without seizures which is a record since Oct. 26th. Had one on Saturday and then another on Monday.
Valium helps but I think I may ask about the chlorazapate as MK's mom suggested. It doesn't seem to stop them completely, just makes them WAY less aggresive. Maybe the alternative would stop them.
Vivian, speaking of that...is that something you do rectally, like the valium? I have both, the liquid for rectal and the pill form.
And as of today, she's been on Kbr for 74 days. Before these two seizures, I was hoping maybe it was starting to kick in...
We'll have to have levels checked.

The KBr can take up to 15 weeks to kick in, so she still may not be at therapeutic levels.
I have pill form clorazapate, which I purchased at Walgreen's.

I am new to the forum but joined because like you, I was considering putting my 130 # Greater Swiss Mountain Dog to sleep because of seizures every other day for a period of a month. He is refractory to both Pb and KBr as well as Gabapentin and had worse seizures on Keppra. I finally got my vet to try Zonisamide in addition to the gabapentin. He has been seizure free now for 14 weeks and 2 days. It's a miracle. I can only tell you my experience. I needed to do something different or his quality of life was not worth it nor was mine. good luck. I hope this helps you.

HI Sue and welcome!!
Wow, thanks for sharing that bit of information with us! This epilepsy thing is tricky business when it comes to treatment. All the dogs respond differently to the medications and it's a trial and error thing for everyone. How smart of you to insist that the vet try it YOUR way!!! With all the researching most of us do trying to find something to help our babes, sometimes I think we know more about this than the vets do.

Hi Sue!
Thank you for your information. That is one more thing I will keep in mind. I love having this site to come back to when I need support or to do a search on something I had seen at one time. It's hard to remember everything, try as I might. And to here of other options that we didn't know about is inspiring to keep going.
I did get one bit of news last night that has me hopeful. I had mentioned to Ada's new vet the pills she was on and apparently, he didn't catch when I said dexamethasone. I called him about it last night because I'm concerned about the side effects and he said we need to get her off it immediately. We are cutting her dose back to ween her off it as he said it's lowering her seizure threshold. I'm hoping this will help. He thought the 11 days free was a good sign, too.
I know I've said it a bunch but I'm so thankful that we're all here sharing our information.
