Weak Legs - Getting worse by the day

Post by SneakyPete » Fri Oct 29, 2010 7:17 am

Hello Everyone,
Trust everyone's loved ones are doing well.
My boy, Sneaky's fight with seizures seem to be under control. 6 weeks and no episodes.
But, all his 4 legs seem to be getting weaker by the day.
Now, he can't even lift himself up and after helping him stand up, he has no resistance whatsoever to walk and seems to slip and fall...irrespective of the type of flooring...be it grass, gravel or interiors.

He is on 120 mg PB twice daily along with 635 gms of KBr for the last 6 weeks. In addition, I am giving him a healthy dose of multi-vitamins & calcium. He is on home cooked fresh food of brown rice, string beans, & chicken.

It hurts me to see him like this....its almost like he is paralytic and unable to stand or walk.
Some people are suggesting it could be infection of the nerves and nothing can be done.

What do I do? Please advise.

Thanks for all your concern and your valuable time.

KBr is known for causing hind end weakness. It takes up to 15 weeks to reach therapeutic levels in the body, so you're barely halfway there. YOu can talk to your vet who might try lessening the dosages, but he doesn't know if this dose will work or not unless your boy got a loading dose, did he? You could ask if the Pb can be backed down a bit, but again, it's best to wait until the dog is at therapeutic levels before you start tweaking the dosages.

Hello

I had similar problems with my dog. We had stumbling, falling down stairs, not able to run etc. My dog was put on KBr alongside PB in Nov last year, it wasn't until September this year that I was allowed to decrease the KBr. Pb levels were not high enough for us to lower.

Really hope your dog improves.
