Anyone out there using Cannabis Oil as an add-on supplement to oral medications or as using it by itself?

Just started Cannibas Oil December 10, 2013 as a supplement to his other medications. So far no seizures and no adverse effects at this time. :)

I thought about this last night as I watched my dog have her eighth seizure in two days (and just six hours after checking her out of the ER vet for cluster seizures). I don't know where to get it or how much it is, but at this point, I would love to try it with her.

I just posted the below on another thread with links. I know you have to be very careful with dogs re: toxicity levels. Even though I believe scientists have found that THC binds to receptors in dogs, cats, monkeys, rats the same as people, you do have to be careful about the dosing. I did some research on-line and haven't really found definitive evidence of clinical trials in dogs. There is a vet in California, Dr. Doug, who uses medicinal marijuana frequently, so if you live there you may want to check him out or maybe send an e-mail and see if you get a response.

"And, I'm with Ellen, I live in a State that has not passed the utilization of medicinal marijuana but they are in the process of trying. A couple of weeks ago I found the following links and it is amazing what it has done for children. I encourage people who are skeptical of this usage to look at both of these and then make an opinion. It's truly inspirational. I do not know how much actual clinical testing has been performed on dogs in this regard, but I know it has been used for the treatment of cancer in canines just as in people by vets in California but vets are strictly monitored in this regard and the laws passed have not really dealt with the use in canines. I hope in the future, in the States where it is possible, that teaching vet hospitals start running trials on the usage for epileptic pups to see just how effective it can be. I have read of individuals who have had success but I would like to see an actual trial using same. If anyone knows if they are doing this, please let me know as I would be interested to view the findings. I still find it funny that all of these medications generated in labs can be legal but an herb that grows naturally from the earth is banned. Pharmaceutical companies will fight legalization of marijuana until they are blue in the face, which is another problem. Just my two cents :) "

hi,

if you get cannabis oil as a tincture which is high in CBD's you can give your dog a few drop's in their food or directly in the mouth and their is no toxicity issues without the THC ... in people who have epilepsy that started using it they were able to go completely off AED's without having seizure's ...

I was hoping to get some advice on that myself. Suzy's seizures are very mild so we don't know how many she is having daily. We are hesitant to give her phenobarbital. We don't want to turn her into a zombie/eating machine. We don't want to take away the things in life that bring her joy, like chasing squirrels and playing squeaky ball.

Medical marijuana is legal here so that is not an issue for us. I do know to stay far away from THC, but that is really about the extend of my knowledge. I know so little, I'm not even sure what questions to ask.

Diagnosed with idiopathic seizures. Lasting only 1-2 seconds, she trembles and blinks very hard. There is no recovery time, once the seizure is over her tail is back up and wagging. But they are happening multiple times a day.

I have been asking every one, I have read so many stories about marijuana stopping seizures in humans & animals. Unfortunately, I am in an illegal state, so it is ridiculously difficult to get help. I would love to try cannibas on our poor dog who is suffering from life threatening seizures.

I'm so sorry Suzyq. It's a shame to me that an herb that grows from the ground with so many potential uses other than getting "high" is not legal. It's ridiculous and is the pharmaceutical machine and the mentally defunct who try to keep this treatment from being a reality and just makes me crazy. They are trying to get medicinal marijuana passed in my State now and we'll see how it goes. However, I contacted many teaching veterinarian schools and none of them are testing with low THC marijuana on canine epilepsy yet sadly, even in States who have legal medicinal and/or recreational marijuana laws. They don't have the money. I keep waiting for that Powerball jackpot so I can fund it myself. However, maybe we just all need to get together and raise some money for this somehow. Something tells me there are people out there who would help, we just need to find the people who are willing to cough up the money :) When you see the positive outcomes with children using the Charlotte's Web strain of medicinal marijuana, it's amazing. However, I e-mailed the manufacturers of the low THC strain and they have a long waiting list for children. I don't think it's coming for canines anytime soon.

Please elaborate! :) How often was your dog seizing before the cannabis oil, where to you buy it and how do you administer? Is your dog on any other medications?

thnx Tunder ... greeeat site!!!! ... Canna-pet.com ... :D ... also keep in mind even if evaluations have only been anecdotal many people believe as I do that many cannabinoids in marijuana (other the the psychoactive THC) can and have helped or cured many illnesses and disease's including cancer ... in people ... http://www.projectcbd.org/medicine/conditions/

food for thought ... :D

I would be interested in trying this. My Kaiser seems to be transitioning to a whole different realm of seizures. However, looking at the site, it looks like one of those tooth-whitening product sites where you give them your credit card number and they send you stuff monthly whether you want it or not.

I'll read more, but I'm taking it with a huge grain of salt, until I see something scientific that says it will help and it will NOT harm.

I just started using canna pet on my German Shepherd for seizures last night. I have my cat on it for cancer too. I am hoping this works. Yesterday he had 2 seizures and he was just started on potassium bromide. He has previously only had one seizure in a day and they always happen between 9 and 11 am. Yesterday he starts meds and he has a seizure at noon and 8 pm. His brother was put to sleep last week after having 13 seizures in an hour. We have determined this is likely genetic epilepsy from the mother. I'm so happy to have found this forum.

Is there anyone on here that has found a vet in the northeast (CT specifically) that has helped them with CBD treatment? Our 4 yr old golden, Lily, is epileptic and takes pheno, levitracetum, zonisamide, and niacin. She is extremely loving and happy but often has a very depressed look on her face, seems hungry all the time but does not want to eat at bfast and dinner, and has really weak back legs. I know CBD treatment works for humans with epilepsy and I would love to find a vet in my area that could help us learn more about CBD treatment!
