Immune link

Post by Shadagee » Fri Jan 18, 2002 11:46 am

I wonder if anyone else has noted an immune system deficiency in litters with high incidence of epilepsy affected dogs? We discuss seizure thresholds frequently - is it possible that that threshold could be governed by the immune system?

I am not aware of any documented link between the immune system and idiopathic epilepsy in dogs. There are a few , rare symptomatic epilepsies that might have an immune system cause, but there is not any known association for the most common forms of epilepsy in dogs, and I think it is unlikely for epilepsy in most dogs to be related to the immune system.
