My collie mix, Summer, had a seizure Wednesday morning. This was her first, and maybe only *fingers crossed*. It was actually relativly minor, but I think it was the scariest moment of my life, I thought she was going to die.
The vet thinks that given her mix of breeds, Collie/German Shepherd, and the time of day, 6am, that it's probably going to prove to be Epilepsy with further tests. He would like to know if any of her siblings have had similar episodes, but I'm not sure if the possibility would be worth asking an already overworked shelter volunteer to dig through 14 months of records to find the rest of the litter. I know that if the situation were reversed I would want to know, but I don't want to scare someone unncessarily.
This is the main focus of the research underway by the Canine Epilepsy Research Consortium. Some of your questions may not have clear answers at this time, but ask them anyway!
