Golden retriever genetics with epilepsy?

Is there already knowledge on how epilepsy is inherited in golden retrievers? Recessive, only through sire or dame etc?

If a sire of several litters is diagnosed with epilepsy, should all the puppies of his different litters not be used for breeding? What about other relatives of the sick dog (brothers, sisters, etc)? The sick dog is not used for breeding after diagnosis.

Thanks!

There is on study on this indicating that Idiopathic Epilepsy in Golden Retrievers may be inherited in a polygenic (a number of genes) recessive manner.

Srenk P, Jaggy A, Gaillard C, Busato A, Horin P. (1996). Genetic basis of idiopathic epilepsy in the golden retriever. Tierarztl Prax. 1994 Dec;22(6):574-8.

There is no hard and fast rules, but under this possible mode of inheritance, I do not recommend breeding any affected dogs, or any normal dogs that have affected parents, grandparents, or more than 25% of their brothers and sisters affected, and would use any dog with affected brothers and sisters cautiously.
