piebald gene and deafness and eplilepsy

Post by feathers » Sat Apr 30, 2005 8:17 pm

I have been doing some research and want to know if there is any link between the piebald allele that causes deafness and epilepsy. I have a basically white brindle pie french bulldog who's epilepsy occurs seasonaly in the winter and early spring when her melatonin/ seratonin levels (early morning seizures) are out of balance and she is partially deaf. If there is a problem with the production of melanocytes then perhaps it relates to her melatonin imbalance and pineal gland. Look at the high incidence of epilepsy and deafness in Dalmations!.What is your opinion? Thanks.
