Juno says, Hello
My name is Juno. I am a 5 1/2 year old male German Shepherd who has Epilepsy. My humans rescued me from a vet clinic here in Michigan when I was 2 years old, because my previous owner didn't think it was his job to make sure I got my medications. On July 4, 2004, the fireworks stressed me out and with no medications I started having seizures. This really made my old owner back then mad, so he decided to let the vets put me to sleep. Lucky for me everyone loved me at the vets so much that they contacted my new humans who run a small home based German Shepherd Rescue. My mom was on Vacation in Nags Head but my new dad and I hit it off great. We got to spend a whole week together and play. I love playing catch with tennis balls and eating. I now am off Pheno and only take KBr. The Pheno was reeking havoc on my hind quarters and I felt like them drunks I see on C.O.P.S..
I live with 2 more German Shepherds(Wyatt & Turk), 2 Dobermans(R.J. & Eden), a Border Collie (Shelby)and a Cocker Spaniel (Bridgette)who are all very healthy to keep me going, when I get down from having a seizure.

Juno had his bloodwork done a week ago. His bromide level was a 3.2 Our vet said 1-3 is within range so Juno was on the high side.
We had him on 1000mg at 7am and another 1000mg at 7pm. A few months ago we realized he was really sluggish and his back end was super weak, so we read where he could have possibly been overdosed, so we cut him back to 1000mg 7am and 500mg at 7pm. When he went in for his bloodwork he was coming off his low dose 500mg that was given to him 15 hours prior.
We are going to put him on 500mg 7am and another 500mg at 7pm. Hope this works.
So far he has went a few months with no seizures.
Keeping our fingers crossed.

What a beautiful dog. You should be very proud of yourselves to have given this beautiful dog a new home. Bless you. These dogs are sent to us for some unknown reason and one day you will find out why you were chosen.

What a gorgeous dog! Funny thing is that when I saw this picture thought somehow it was my dog, Saylor, they look identical! We also experienced extreme hing leg weakness from too much kbr, when we lowered the dose she got much better, not "normal" but better. She is on 2 ml of kbr twice daily and 150 mg of pheno bid. When we had her kbr level done she was at the upper end of the accepted range. We have never had really good control of her seizures, they come about once every 2-3 weeks. She had one this morning--her first in 19 days, not too bad. I see that you are from Michigan, we got Saylor in Cincinnati, OH. How old is your dog? Ours is going to be 4 in May. She's had seizures since she was 1 1/2.
Juno is 5 years old now. He started having seizures around the age of 2, hence the reason his owner didn't want him anymore. He sticks like glue to me, to the point of me not being able to move at times. If I am walking in the house or outside and stop he runs into me because he is so close. He loves fetching tennis balls and will do it for hours if you let him.
