A very long week.

Morning all,
This past week was not good for Casey. He only went 6 days and Mon. eve. had a grandmal. Then again early Tues. 12:30 a.m. had another. All heck broke lose Tues. eve. at 5:30 when he started having grandmals that wouln't stop. He ended up having 7 by 10 p.m. and I placed a call to my vet. I had given him 45 mg. around 8:00 but it wasn't doing anything. I gave him another 45 mg. at 10:00 and then called her. We had discussed taking him to Louisville (which is an hour away) to the ER but they said the bill would be anywhere from $600-1000, which I just didn't have. I called the vet back and we discussed bringing him to their clinic to pump a dose of valium into him but by 11:00 all of the PB was finally starting to kick in and he was slowing down. He had 4 partials, or lots of trembling, but not full blowns after that. We managed to sleep thru the night and I dropped him off at the vet clinic for observation on Wed. He did well there, but started having the partials again Wed. eve. at home. Thurs. morn. and eve. still having partials and Friday (my husband) was off, still having them thru the day. This has really been a bad week for him. The vet consulted with a neuro who suggested we increase his 67 mg. morning dose of PB to 90 mg. so the levels stay the same throughout 24 hours and that we try using the Chlorazapate again, to break the clusters. We had stopped using it for a while as I saw no benefits, he still had 3 day clusters, just not anywhere as bad as Tues. I have wracked my brain trying to think what could be causing this and the only thing we have done different is add the Zonisimide (Zonegran) the beginning of August. I called the vet today to see if we couldn't take him off of it for awhile just to see if it will make a difference. It could be that it just doesn't agree with Casey and the rest of the drugs he's on. I'm really just at my wit's end and hope he will start feeling better soon. He is doing well from his hip surgery though, got the stitches out the other day and if he ever starts feeling better we are going to start walking again. He has lost a few pounds, but I think it's from all the stress of the partials this week.

Thank you and I hope Barney is continuing to do well. Casey is still having those darn partials, break-thru's, whatever you want to call them. I just don't know how to get them to stop. He goes a couple of hours and then they start again. Very, very frustrating. I did manage to video one of them happening so I can show the vet. There not the full blown, they don't last nearly as long and aren't as violent, but upsetting none the less.

Sorry to hear what has been going on (I have been away).
I hope that things are settling down now.
It still gets me that nothing happens for such a long time and when one starts it sets off a chain reaction.

I'm so sorry to hear that Casey is having a really tough time at the moment. It's strange that we've had a few dogs start seizing again around the same time.

Sending lots of healing thoughts for Casey and you, we all know how stressful this thing is.

Debbie, i saw your other msg about maybe the Zonisamide causing Casie's problems. You probably remember me saying that Jackson had some strange health issues while on it, but i never knew if it was the Zonisamide or not. He did go into status within days of stopping the drug though, so keep your eyes open.
